The eyes of the college football world once again fall on Georgia football as they get set to travel to Austin, TX to take on the Texas Longhorns next Saturday.

ESPN has already announced that College Gameday will be in Texas for this game, but the latest edition of the AP Poll has raised the stakes even more.

Updated AP Poll rankings

Georgia defeated Mississippi State 41-31 on Saturday. Even after No. 2 Ohio State’s loss to No. 3 Oregon, the Buckeyes remain above Georgia as the Bulldogs stay put at No. 5.

Texas remains No. 1 in the country after a dominant 34-3 win over No. 18 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

What’s on the line for Georgia?

It’s pretty clear how massive this game is for Georgia and their season outlook. The Bulldogs already have one loss in SEC play, so a second loss would significantly decrease their chances at winning an SEC Championship. UGA would still have an outside chance to make it to the championship game, but they would need a lot of help from other teams.

Georgia’s College Football Playoff chances would be hurt as well. UGA would still qualify for the 12-team playoff if they finish the season with two losses. A third loss however would put those chances in serious jeopardy. And with Ole Miss and Tennessee still on the Bulldogs’ schedule, a third loss would be possible.

Georgia and Texas are set to do battle Saturday night, Oct. 19 at 7:30 pm EST. The Bulldogs are slight underdogs in this game according to Vegas, but can UGA still get it done with the entire college football world watching? That is yet to be seen, but if they do Georgia will once again announce themselves as national championship favorites.
