Georgia football and Kirby Smart have prioritized two positions so far in the transfer portal. Wide receiver and quarterback. And while Georgia has made some progress with a few wide receivers so far, they have yet to have any real development with any QB so far.
However, Georgia was linked to Alabama transfer QB Dylan Lonergan just a few days ago, and he seemed like a great option for the Bulldogs to go after. According to 247Sports, Lonergan is the No. 20 QB in the country, so sure he isn't the best QB out there, but he has plenty of talent and with an opportunity to see the field will likely excel.
But that opportunity will not occur at Georgia as Lonergan officially committed to Boston College on Tuesday, according to On3's Pete Thamel.
Where does Georgia turn now?
The nice thing for Georgia is that they don't need to get a QB out of the portal. If one of their current QBs on the roster transfers out this offseason then they likely will, but Georgia has four great options already in the program for next season in Gunner Stockton, Jaden Rashada, Ryan Montgomery and Ryan Puglisi. There is even a chance that Carson Beck could return for one more season.
But if Smart does still want to get a QB in the portal, UGA has already been publicly linked with two other prospects including Cal transfer Fernando Mendoza and Charlotte transfer Deshawn Purdie. So Smart could ramp up their pursuit of either player in hopes of earning their commitment.
Regardless, losing this recruiting battle is not the end of the world for Georgia. They still have plenty of time to get a transfer QB if they really want one, but at the same time it is not 100 percent needed. So it will be very interesting to see what Georgia does throughout the rest of the offseason.
