Georgia's 2027 recruiting class needed to be rescued. Overall they have a lot of really good commits, but their lack of defensive back commits put their class in an uncomfortable position.
Thankfully Kirby Smart has fixed that problem in a hurry by earning not one but two defensive back commits in the last few weeks. This time it is four-star safety Seth Williams who made his pledge to Georgia on Friday over the Clemson Tigers.
4-star Seth Williams commits to Georgia over Clemson
It was clear that Williams was all in on Georgia and Clemson for the past few months. They were the only schools to get an official visit this summer, so Smart knew they were the one school he had to take down for the past few months.
This recruitment was all Clemson though when his original commitment date of July 3 was approaching. Every expert believed the Tigers would come out on top, but then Williams canceled his commitment date which gave Georgia more time to convince him to change his mind.
Williams then announced that he would commit on July 31, and soon after a prediction was placed in Georgia's favor. The rest was history after that as Williams made his commitment to Georgia official Friday night.
Williams' commitment to Georgia moves them back inside the top 10 in the 247Sports recruiting rankings as they now have the No. 10 class in the country. This also moved Georgia past Auburn in the recruiting rankings and into a tie with Florida as well.
What's next for Georgia's 2027 recruiting class?
Georgia may be back inside the top 10 rankings, but that's still not where they want to be. They expect to be much higher than that, so there is still a lot of work for Smart and his staff to do.
The most important thing for them though is adding even more defensive backs. Williams is only the second defensive back in their class and Georgia will want to get to at least four commits, so that is where Smart's attention needs to be right now.
The good news is that Georgia is in a great spot with three-star Preston Glasco. He is committed UConn, but his relationship has reportedly been quickly improving with Georgia, so he is someone who could end up in Georgia's class eventually.
Other than that there aren't any other known targets right now, but Smart will certainly find someone else who will be able to help Georgia continue dominating the SEC.
