Will Muschamp spent the last five years at Georgia before leaving to become the defensive coordinator at Texas. He is one week away from his first game since returning to Texas, but his defense is wrapped up in a lot of off-the-field drama.
The first example was linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith being dismissed from the program for conduct detrimental to the team.

Smith was a star for the Longhorns last year, recording 60 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.

This would already be a difficult situation for Muschamp to navigate, but then Texas freshman cornerback Hayward Howard Jr.'s father, Hayward Howard Sr., went off on a social media rant.
"A lot of bull**** going on at Texas as a parent, I’m very disappointed," Howard Sr said via si.com. "I did not play the politic games, my son play football and he does it very well."
"It's a lot of s*** going on y'all dont know, and I'm about to expose this s***," he continued.
Georgia could make Will Muschamp regret his decision to leave for Texas
It’s unclear if any of these situations involve Muschamp directly or not. The player getting dismissed probably has nothing to do with him, but the upset father could be upset with him. Regardless of what the situations are, having two off-the-field situations right before the season starts isn’t a good thing for the program and his defense.
Texas already has a difficult enough path in front of them. They not only have one of the most difficult conference schedules in the SEC, but they also face Ohio State in week two this season as well. They do get to play the Buckeyes at home, but Ohio State is the No. 1 team in the country and could very easily leave Austin with a win.
Georgia and Texas don’t play during the regular season this year, but Vegas believes they will are the two most likely teams to meet in Atlanta in the SEC Championship game. These off-the-field distractions however could cause Texas to lose a couple games, and if that happens they may not make it there.
If they do make it to Atlanta though Georgia could be there waiting for them ready to beat Muschamp in his first season with the Longhorns.
Texas has one of the best rosters in the country, so they should be expected to survive these off-the-field issues. There is a world where this negatively impacts them though, and if that occurs while Georgia wins the SEC again there’s a chance Muschamp regrets ever leaving Athens.
