A large contingent of Georgia fans do not like Mike Bobo, and their membership is growing every day. Kirby Smart however doesn't care what anyone thinks.
Bobo came back to Georgia in 2022 and became their offensive coordinator in 2023. Georgia fans gave him a fair chance, but after their season-ending loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff two years ago fans decided they have had enough.
Ever since then they have been begging for him to be fired, but Smart has made it clear that he will not be granting that wish. That choice is undoubtedly the right thing to do not only because he is a great coach on the field but because of five-star quarterback Jayden Wade's commitment to Georgia.
Mike Bobo will always have a job at Georgia as long as Jayden Wade is with the program
Wade is the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class who decided to commit to Georgia very early in the recruiting cycle as he made his pledge last November. Bobo just so happened to be Wade's lead recruiter. He is arguably the biggest reason why Wade committed to Georgia, so how would he feel if Bobo was fired and no longer with the program?
If that happened there'd be a great chance he would decommit and look to play for a new program. So not only would Georgia lose a solid offensive coordinator, but they'd lose a generational talent in Wade.
Smart sounds like he would want to keep Bobo regardless of if Wade was committed to Georgia or not, but Wade's commitment is the biggest reason why Bobo hasn't been fired and will never be fired until Wade's connection with Georgia comes to an end.
Mike Bobo's contract extension wasn't a coincidence
About a month ago Smart extended Bobo's contract at Georgia. He extended him through the 2028 season, and that decision was likely done on purpose.
Wade will join Georgia's program in 2028. That season will be the first chance he has to play at Georgia, and there is a real chance he wins the starting job as a true freshman. And if he does and lives up to all the hype then Bobo will look like a genius and all his doubters will be happy he was never fired.
Extending him through 2028 though was the best thing Smart could do to keep Wade in their recruiting class. He obviously committed to Georgia partially because he wants to play for Bobo, so seeing that Smart is all in on Bobo for at least his first season in Athens should be enough to help convince him to stay with Georgia even more.
Wade has been hearing from a lot of other schools recently. Michigan is the school that has been pushing the hardest, but there are a few other schools who are after him as well like rival Auburn. But so far Georgia has done everything to perfection to keep him in their recruiting class, and that includes extending Bobo through the 2028 season.
